KAPIT: New Kapit District Council walikota Lating Minggang has officially taken over duties from his predecessor Datuk Philimon Nuing.

Lating, from Rumah Undi, Sungai Sut previously worked with Petronas for 24 years.

In his remarks, he said Kapit has seen major developments during Philimon’s tenure.

“We have seen a lot of changes in Kapit, with many major development projects including the proposed beautification of Lily Pond, multi-storey carpark, Kapit Town Square, Kapit Riverfront Phase II, Song Riverfront Phase II and III, and Belaga Waterfront projects Phase I and II, which are at various stages of construction.

“Basically there are so many things that have been done and planned by the previous walikota. What we cannot see, which Philimon has, is his communication skills and public relations,” he said.

The longest serving Kapit walikota said his 16 years have resulted in strong trust and cooperation with staff and councillors.

“I wish to see Kapit develop more in the future. I am confident that my successor Lating, with his new team of councillors, will continue to develop Kapit towards greater heights,” he said.
