Man charged with five counts of cheating

SIBU: A 44-year-old man claimed trial at the magistrates’ court here yesterday to five charges of cheating, involving offers of various contracts that did not exist.

Tang Kah King from Sungai Sian, Bintangor, was charged under Section 420 of the Penal Code, with cheating five people – one of whom is a woman – involving a total sum of RM22,300.

The Section provides for a jail term of not less than a year and not more than 10 years, whipping and a fine, upon conviction.

For the first charge, he allegedly cheated a female administrative assistant of RM1,800 for the refurbishment of a house at Tebu Lane 11 on May 20.

For the second charge, he allegedly cheated a salesman of RM4,000 for buying and installing two aluminium doors at Tun Ahmad Zaidi Adruce Road at 9am on May 24.

Magistrate Muhammad Faizal Che Saad released Tang on a RM2,500-bail, with two sureties for each charge.

In a separate court room, Tang was charged with cheating a person of RM2,000 for making a kitchen cabinet on June 8 at Permai Timur Road.

He was also alleged of cheating a house owner on April 18 in Ulu Sungai Merah Road, involving a sum of RM14,100 for making kitchen cabinets and home furniture.

He was also charged with cheating a pensioner of RM400 for painting and repairing a house door in Poh Yew Roadon July 3.

All the ‘so-called contract works’ did not exist.

Magistrate Syarifah Fatimah Azura released Tang on RM1,500-bail with a surety for each charge.

Both courts fixed Sept 4 for pre-trial case management.
