BINTULU: Police arrested four individuals for suspected armed robbery at Tun Hussein Onn Road here at 2.30pm on Thursday.
District police chief Supt Zulkipli Suhaili said the suspects, aged between 19 and 32, were arrested in differnt areas in Bintulu town during Operation Cantas from 2 to 4pm on Thursday.
“We also seized four smartphones and two long machetes from the suspects,” he said in a media statement.
According to Zulkipli, two women, both aged 32, were apprehended by four armed men in Tun Hussein Onn Road last Thursday.
“The two handed over their handphones to the suspects for fear of their safety.
“The handphones were worth about RM1,000.”
Zulkipli said a police team sprang into action following a report lodged.
The suspects were taken to the Magistrate’s Court here yesterday morning for a remand order.
The police are investigating the case under Section 395/397 of the Penal Code for armed robbery which provides up to 20 years’ jail upon conviction.
