Public reminded of major road closures for Kuching Marathon

KUCHING: Several roads here will be closed romorrow (Aug 18) in conjunction with the Kuching Marathon.

According to Kuching District police chief ASP Awang Din Awang Gani, the roads are Main Bazaar junction/Wayang Street, Jalan Gambier/Jalan Tun Abang Haji Openg/Main Bazaar, Wayang Street/Jalan Wawasan, Jalan Borneo/Jalan Tunku Abdul Rahman, Jalan Abell to Jalan Padungan, Jalan Padungan from the Sri Aman roundabout, RTM Traffic Light/Jalan Satok to Padang Merdeka, Jalan Haji Taha, Jalan Khoo Hun Yeang, Jalan Masjid, Jalan Tunku Abdul Rahman (Cat Statue), and St Mary’s traffic light to Wayang Street. The closure runs from 1am to 8am.

Jalan Tun Abang Haji Openg, Jalan Pearl, Jalan Barrack and Jalan Wawasan will be closed as early as 11.30pm today to give way for the erection of the marathon’s starting and finish lines.

“Members of the public who wish to see the marathon are also advised to park their vehicles at Reservoir Park, Taman Budaya, Green Hill, Bangunan Saujana, Top Spot car park, civic centre car park, Polyclinic parking lot and MBKS Jubilee Ground car park,” he told a press conference at Kuching District police headquarters in Jalan Simpang Tiga here yesterday. Marathon director Liew Tang Chieh was also present.

Kuching Marathon 2019 is an international-level marathon organised by Kuching Marathon Association (KMA) and supported by Ministry of Tourism, Arts, Culture, Youth and Sports.

Local and international participants numbering 9,600 will take part in the Full Marathon (42km), Half-Marathon (21km) and Fun Run (10km and 5km).

Members of the public are also advised to plan their journey accordingly during that day and follow the posted road signages and instructions from traffic officers or any uniformed bodies that are on duty that day, when entering the city centre.
