Curtin Malaysia among finalists in IChemE Malaysia Awards 2019

MIRI: The Institution of Chemical Engineers (IChemE) Student Chapter of Curtin University Malaysia (Curtin Malaysia) is among for Best Student Chapter in IChemE Malaysia Awards 2019.

The chapter is among 40 finalists vying for the trophy for excellence and innovation in chemical, biochemical and process engineering at the annual IChemE Malaysia Awards dinner on Oct 14 in Kuala Lumpur.

Raja Permaisuri of Perak, Tuanku Zara Salim, who is a chemical engineer and Royal Patron of IChemE in Malaysia will be officiating.

Curtin Malaysia in a statement yesterday said for the second year, the Student Chapter Award will be awarded to the university with the most outstanding work promoting the professional development and networking opportunities in the chemical engineering profession to students.

Other award categories are Oil & Gas, Palm Oil, Process Safety, Sustainability, Training & Development, Young Industrialist, and Young Researcher.

Winners of the awards will automatically represent Malaysia at IChemE Global Awards on  Nov 7 in Hull, United Kingdom.  Winners of global awards are eligible for the overall Award for Outstanding Achievement in Chemical and Process Engineering.

Ir Dr Christina Phang, chair of the Board of IChemE in Malaysia said, “The IChemE Malaysia Awards provide peer recognition of the significant achievements that chemical engineers are doing to address some of the world’s major challenges”.

Meanwhile, academic advisor to Curtin Malaysia IChemE Student Chapter, Dr Bridgid Chin said the chapter deserves recognition for excellent work done such as organising industrial talks, site visits, community outreach programmes, training workshops and seminars related to chemical engineering including hosting the 29th Symposium of Malaysian Chemical Engineers in Miri in 2016

IChemE is the global professional engineering institution for chemical, biochemical, and process engineers and other related professionals worldwide with over 44,000 members in over 120 countries. Its mission is to build and support a community and network of professionals involved in all facets of the Chemical Engineering discipline.
