KUCHING: A company operating at Kubah Ria in Petra Jaya was fined RM3,000 by the Magistrate’s Court on Aug 16 for not registering with the Social Security Organisation (Socso).

The indictment was made under Section 4 of the Employees Social Security Act 1969 (Act 4) and Regulation 10(3) of Employees Social Security (General) Regulations 1971.

Socso Sarawak director Philip Sangkan said the sentence was meted out by Magistrate Nuruhuda Mohd Yusof after the company’s proprietor pleaded guilty to the charge.

“The employer is found to have failed to register her company with Socso after more than 30 days of issuance of the notice,” he said in a statement yesterday.

Citing the facts of the case, Philip said an inspection was conducted on the employer on Aug 9 last year, which found that the company had employed an employee since Sept 1, 2013.

According to Socso Sarawak Office prosecuting officer Masroeni Jaraie, the organisation had also applied for a court order for the accused to register the company and clear the contributions of employees from September 2013 to July 2019, amounting to RM1,199.90.

Failure to comply with this order could risk the employer to be punished by imprisonment of up to two years, or a fine not exceeding RM10,000.
