KUCHING: The Electoral Reform Committee (ERC) under the Prime Minister’s Department will hold two state-level management sessions in Sarawak this month.

The first session will be at Dewan Baitulmal of Sarawak Islamic Complex in Miri on Aug 26, followed by another at Dewan Galeri of the Pustaka Negeri (State Library) here on Aug 28.

The sessions are meant to obtain information and suggestions on electoral reform from all stakeholders including government agencies, political parties, non-governmental organisations and members of the public, said a statement issued by the ERC yesterday.

The effort is conducted nationwide and Sarawak will be the second state to have the session. A similar event will be held in Terengganu on Sept 4.

The ERC, in collaboration with Bersih 2.0, will also be holding a workshop on electoral ethical code here on Aug 29 and 30.

The workshop is aimed at getting input from political parties on the definition of electoral offences that should be used to form an election code of ethics, and how elections should be conducted in tandem with the Election Offences Act 1954.

A similar workshop was recently held in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah while the same programme would be taking place in Peninsular Malaysia after Kuching.

“In this regard, ERC and Bersih 2.0 invite all stakeholders to participate in discussions to be held in Kuching, Sarawak to share their views and inputs so as to provide feedback and suggestions for improvement,” said the statement.

Political parties in Sarawak that wish to take part in the session on Aug 28 or the workshops on Aug 29 and 30, are advised to contact ERC assistant chief executive Khairul Anwar Ahmad Nadzer by calling 03-888 66365, or emailing to [email protected] for more information.
