KUCHING: Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) secretary-general Datuk Alexander Nanta Linggi yesterday expressed support over the decision to appoint Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah as Second Finance Minister.

“It is a good decision because I believe that with Datuk Amar Uggah’s vast experience, coupled with his excellent contact and familiarity with the federal government and leaders, he is in the best position to assist the chief minister in that particular portfolio,” said the Kapit MP, who is also special advisor to Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg.

According to him, Uggah’s disposition makes him well-suited to the responsibilities, challenges and tasks that are demanded by the Ministry of Finance.

In addition to being Second Finance Minister, Uggah is also Agriculture, Native Land and Regional Development Minister.

The state’s Finance Minister post is held by Abang Johari.

Nanta also congratulated Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) leaders Datuk Lee Kim Shin on being appointed as Transport Minister, and Datuk Sebastian Ting on becoming Tourism, Arts and Culture Assistant Minister.

He also welcomed the appointment of Datu Jaul Samion as the new State Secretary.

“I am confident that with his many years of service in the state’s administration and combined with the varied experiences that he must have gone through serving in many capacities, he is indeed the right person to take over the responsibility as the head of the state’s civil service,” said Nanta.
