BINTULU: Four hundred runners from all walks of life completed the 7.6km Bintulu Dengue Run 2019 at Naim Bintulu Paragon on Saturday.

The first running event organised by SK Tanjung Batu received overwhelming response not only from the school staff but also from parents and individuals including employees of private companies.

It was held to support the school’s activities to promote a campaign against dengue.

“We have achieved our initial target to attract participation from various parties although our event was not held in a big scale” said school headmaster Togang Sedin.

What matters, he said, is that from the event they can share the message to the public on the importance of taking care of their living environment to fight dengue mosquitoes.

“Personally I can see this event as the highlight for our anti-dengue campaign this year.

He thanked committee members and all parties including sponsors for supporting the advocacy effort against dengue at the divisional and national levels.

Meanwhile, Bintulu District Education Office sports assistant supervisor Michael Paul Puji was impressed with the strong and positive support for the programme.

“I believe Bintulu Dengue Run should be made as an annual event for the community in Bintulu,” he said.

Apart from the running event, lucky draws were held offering attractive prizes to the participants while the school’s Young Doctor Club distributed brochures about the anti-dengue campaign to the public.
