SARIKEI: The state-level Women’s Day celebration is expected to host some 5,000 women from all across Sarawak this year, says Minister of Welfare, Community Wellbeing, Women, Family and Childhood Development Dato Sri Fatimah Abdullah.

The event will take place at Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK) this Sept 28.

In disclosing this during the division-level Women’s Day 2019 at Kampung Seberang multipurpose hall here yesterday, Fatimah said this year’s theme for the state-level event would be ‘Women in Safety and Security’.

Adding on, she said the event would also hold the launching of a book titled ‘Sarawak Women in Safety and Security: In Good Hands’.

“Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg and his wife Datuk Amar Juma’ani Tuanku Bujang have been invited as the guests-of-honour for the ceremony,” she said.

Additionally, six awards would be presented during the event, namely the Datuk Patinggi Laila Taib Award, Woman Social Activist Award, Woman Entrepreneur Award, Woman Leadership Award, Special Achievement Award, and Outstanding Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO) Award.

Moreover, Fatimah said she was also pleased to note that for the Women’s Day celebration here, Assistant Minister in the Chief Minister’s Department (Law, State-Federal Relations and Project Monitoring) Sharifah Hasidah Sayeed Aman Ghazali had been invited to present a talk on ‘Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63) and Oil and Mining Ordinance (OMO) 1958’.

“I believe that the sharing of such information is timely, in that women are expected to play an increasingly vital role in the development of Sarawak, in particular, and nation-building in general.”

Assistant Minister of Urban Development and Resources Datu Len Talif Salleh and his wife Datin Asiah Awai, Women and Family Department Sarawak director Noriah Ahmad, as well as Temenggong Junia Olia, were also present at the event here yesterday.
