SIBU: The General Operations Force (GOF) seized a total of 15,850 timber logs worth about RM186,000 during a raid on four sawmills in Pusa area on Tuesday.

Of the four sawmills, three are located in Kampong Beladin Hulu. Theother one is in Maludan Road, Pusa.

GOF 10th Battalion commanding officer Superintendant Sanuddin Md Isa said they also detained four men in their 40’s and 50’s during the raid codenamed `Ops Libas’ from 3pm to 6pm.

He said all the four sawmills were suspected to have been operating illegally.

“All the four owners failed to show any documents pertaining to the ownership of the sawmills,” he said in a media statement.

He said the suspects might have committed an offence under Sarawak Forest Ordinance 2015.

“They will be handed over to the Forestry Department, Sri Aman Region,” he added.

He said the raid was made possible through their close collaboration with the Malaysia Anti-Corruption Commission (Sarawak MACC) and Sarawak Forestry Corporation (SFC).
