MIRI: Parti Amanah Negara president Mohamad Sabu said the party is eyeing to contest in the upcoming state election, due in 2021.

However, the Defence Minister stated that the number of seats is still being negotiated with fellow Pakatan Harapan (PH) coalition members.

“Amanah is still young when it comes to taking part in elections. Of course, we have our targeted seats but I can’t let you know now,” he told reporters when met at a PH dinner gathering here on Sunday.

He said while the party is hopeful of contesting in the state election, the final decision will be made after discussions and consultation with PH component parties.

Separately, Mohamad, popularly known as Mat Sabu, disclosed that he is currently working on securing more allocations to provide military personnel with better accommodation facilities.

“As Defence Minister, I have visited military camps in Sibu, Kuching as well as Miri. My focus now is to improve military accommodation facilities into a more comfortable house concept, with three rooms compared to two rooms before.”

He also expressed admiration at the peace and harmony in Sarawak, where people of different race and religion live together without any issue.

“There is no racial issue here in Sarawak. I hope the people in Sarawak will not import the negative racial elements happening now in Peninsular Malaysia,” he said, while stressing that PH will not allow those who play on such issues to jeopardise the existing peace in the country.

Transport Minister Anthony Loke, Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Deputy Minister Chong Chieng Jen, Senator Alan Ling, Saratok MP Ali Biju, Miri MP Dr Michael Teo and Pujut assemblyman Dr Ting Tiong Choon were among the over 1,000 who attended the dinner.
