MIRI: Pakatan Harapan (PH) will continue its efforts to garner support from the Sarawak and Sabah governments to restore status of both states as partners in the Federation of Malaysia in accordance with the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63), says federal Transport Minister Anthony Loke.
He stressed the PH federal government will do whatever it takes to make the mission, which is very close to the hearts of the people of the two states, a reality.
“The Bill to amend Article 1(2) of the Federal Constitution to restore Sarawak and Sabah as partners in Malaysia, which is enshrined in MA63, had been read in Parliament.
“However, PH was unable to move the Bill through Parliament after failing to get support from Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) MPs. Any effort to amend the federal constitution can only be done with support from GPS MPs,” he told the crowd at a dinner gathering here Sunday.
Loke, who is Democratic Action Party (DAP) national organising secretary, also thanked Sarawakians for putting their trust in PH in the last general election, assuring the coalition would give its all in providing the people with the best government compared to the previous administration which had been in power for 60 years.
“There is still much work that needs to be done and we will continue with the commitment to provide the best for the people, including here in Sarawak which is an opposition state.”
He also assured the people of a ‘cleaner’ government that is free from corruption and abuse of power. More than 1,000 people attended the dinner here which was organised by PH component parties.
Among those in attendance were Defence Minister Mohamad Sabu, who is Parti Amanah Negara president; Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Deputy Minister Chong Chieng Jen, who is also PH Sarawak and DAP Sarawak chairman; Senator Alan Ling, Saratok MP and Krian assemblyman Ali Biju, Miri MP Dr Michael Teo, Pujut assemblyman Dr Ting Tiong Choon, and Bilut assemblyman Lee Chin Chen from Pahang.
