KUCHING: Personnel from Sekama police station continue to carry out routine patrols in the Kenyalang Park area even though the area is not a hot spot for crime, said the station’s officer-in-charge ASP Will Jihem.

Speaking to reporters following a walkabout with Bandar Kuching MP Dr Kelvin Yii and Pending assemblywoman Violet Yong yesterday, he said the safety of traders, shoppers and residents of Kenyalang Park is always a priority.

The walkabout covered Kenyalang Park Market, Kenyalang Park Commercial Centre and the residential area.

Dr Yii, meanwhile, suggested police also focus on addressing petty crime in the area, while also fostering closer rapport with the local community during their patrols.

He said the presence of police personnel on the ground will make those who go to Kenyalang Park feel safer and less worried about falling victim to crime.
