Elderly male Taiwanese tourist missing in Bako, search and rescue launched

KUCHING: An elderly Taiwanese tourist has been reported missing after he went trekking with two friends in Bako National Park today.

Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department’s (Bomba) Operations Centre received an emergency call from a Park Ranger, informing them that the hiker, identified as Shin, 70, had failed to return to the base.

His friends had made it back to the base and immediately informed the park authorities that they were separated from Shin near at about 2pm, the department said.

Park rangers launched a search for Shin but have yet to locate him.

Firefighters from the Tabuan Jaya fire station, four firefighter volunteers from Bako Indah Team, four park rangers and 15 members of a boat club are currently involved the search and rescue efforts.

As at 11pm, the search team is still scouring the area for any sign of the missing tourist.
