KUCHING: Muhammad Nur Aidit Hazziq Azman showcased an exquisite performance on the official opening day of Sarawak Fighting Championship (SFC) at Kuching Waterfront Esplanade yesterday.

The 10-year-old schoolboy from SK Buntal represents Buaya Putih – one of many muaythai clubs from all across the country that are sending their exponents to the inaugural tournament here.

In the Boys Amateur (34-36kg) bout, Hazziq edged his rival from Sting Muaythai, Rayyan Danish Heikal Firdaus, in the second round.

Hazziq steals a glance at the camera before entering his bout.

Today, Hazziq’s younger brother Muhd Nur Aimar Haqqim will encounter Dylan Casey Daniel of D30 Miri in one of the junior amateur bouts.

The boys are among the 100 fighters taking part in the championship, which is also hosting young muaythai athletes from Thailand, Singapore and Cambodia.

The fights kicked off on Thursday evening with nine amateur bouts, two semi-pro bouts and one pro bout.

Ten amateur bouts took place in the ring yesterday, while 12 amateur bouts and five semi-pro bouts would be run today.

The highlights of the tournament will be the Sarawak Chief Minister’s Cup and also the SFC Chief Minister’s Black Belt bouts, which will have Sarawakian muaythai fighters to be up against invited international challengers.

According to Sarawak Muaythai Association president Jumaat Ibrahim, who is also SFC organising committee chairman, the event serves to uncover new talents and highlight the current line-up of young fighters.
