Samarahan second division to record ‘very unhealthy’ air quality in S’wak

KUCHING: The Air Pollutant Index (API) reading for Samarahan has breached 200, making it the second division to record ‘very unhealthy’ air quality after Kuching.

According to Air Pollutant Index Malaysia (APIM) Department of Environment (DOE), the API reading recorded in Samarahan as of 7pm was 207 compared to 204 at 6pm, while the API recorded in Kuching was 214 compared to 210 as of 6pm.

Other divisions which recorded API at a unhealthy level as of 7pm were Sri Aman (173), Sarikei (171), Sibu (154), Bintulu (152), ILP Miri (132), Mukah (131), Samalaju (121), SK Kuala Baram 2 (111) and Miri (109).

Kapit and Limbang recorded moderate API at 95 and 96 respectively.

An API reading for good air quality is from zero to 50, 51 to 100 is moderate, 101 to 200 is unhealthy, 201 to 300 is very unhealthy and 300 and above is hazardous.

Meanwhile, State’s Disaster Management Committee in their 4pm report, stated that there were four hotspots detected in Sarawak, three in Tatau and one in Marudi.

Additionally, the State Disaster Management Committee stated that there were 708 hotspots detected in Kalimantan and 447 hotspots were detected in Sumatera.
