KUCHING: Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg welcomes the Shared Prosperity Vision policy recently announced by Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad.

He stressed that despite the federal and state governments being under two different political platforms, it would not deter the two from working together.

“Even though the state government and federal government are on two different political platforms, I am confident, and believe, that this would not stop us from working together for the sake of the people and nation.

“In this matter, I welcome the Shared Prosperity Vision policy recently announced by Dr Mahathir,” Abang Johari said in his speech at the national-level Malaysia Day celebration held at Stadium Perpaduan, Petrajaya here this evening.

He added that he was “confident” that issues relating to the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63) would be resolved through the MA63 Steering Committee.

“I want to thank Dr Mahathir for establishing a Steering Committee to deal with this issue (MA63). The current negotiation in relation to the implementation MA63, chaired by Dr Mahathir, amplifies this.

“We are all confident and looking forward to solutions which will see no losers, and more importantly, no derogation of constitutional rights, special safeguards and status accorded to the states of Sabah and Sarawak as agreed by the nation’s founding fathers and embedded 56 years ago in the Federal Constitution,” said Abang Johari.

Announcing the Shared Prosperity Vision policy on Sept 14, Dr Mahathir said it was an effort to close the gap between the rich and the poor, urban and rural as well as worker’s income.

The new national vision would cover the 12th Malaysia Plan until the 13th Malaysia Plan (13MP), some 10 years.

Dr Mahathir also said at an event here today that the federal government was committed to giving more focus on developing Sarawak and Sabah.
