Sri Aman wakes up to hazardous air quality

Thick haze covering Sri Aman town this morning.

KUCHING: Sri Aman’s Air Pollutant Index (API) breached hazardous levels this morning with a reading of 365 as of 8am.

It crossed the threshold at 3am with a reading of 311 at 3am, rising sharply from 290 an hour earlier, the Department of Environment’s air quality website showed.

An API reading of zero to 50 is good, 51 to 100 is moderate, 101 to 200 is unhealthy, 201 to 300 is very unhealthy and 301 and above is hazardous.

The department’s monitoring station in Kuching recorded the second highest API level of 219 at 8am.

Unhealthy air quality was recorded in  Sibu (166), Samarahan (160), Sarikei (148), Mukah (140) Bintulu (129), Miri (126), Samalaju (113), and at the Miri Industrial Training Institute (107).
