LAHAD DATU: Marine police rescued a local tourist guide who went missing while jungle trekking with two tourists at Sungai Kapur area near Evans Hill here on Monday.

Sabah Region Four MPF commander ACP Mohamad Pajeri Ali in a statement yesterday said they sent a patrol boat and launched a search operation upon being alerted at 4.15 pm.

Mohamad Pajeri said Saharrudin Zakaria, 43, had gone to the area by boat with two tourists for jungle trekking.

Upon arrival, Saharrudin told the tourists to start their activities as he needed to answer the nature’s call. However, he did not return later and a police report was lodged to search for him.

“MPF members with two villagers and three members of the Forestry Department later went to search at the area where the victim was reported missing.

“The search covered all areas from the river bank to the end of the river but failed to locate the victim. At about 5.40 pm, several shots were fired for signal,” he said.

According to Mohamad Pajeri, several minutes after the signal, the team heard a shout from the forest and went to the location.

They found the victim in a weak condition about 6.10 pm and brought him to a Forestry Department boat.

He said the victim was later taken to the Forestry Department post for further action.

Mohamad Pajeri thanked all the parties involved in the rescue operation.
