SIBU: Pulau Li Hua Marina Bay is now a new tourist attraction in this town.

According to Hock Peng Organisation (HP) deputy chairman Pemanca Datuk Dr Francis Toh Chiew Peng, this area is poised to boost Sibu’s tourism, in that many sports activities can be conducted at the marina.

“By the beginning of next year, Pulau Li Hua will have a new Li Hua Hotel that comes with 169 rooms and also a supermarket.

“This new attraction should help Sibu attract both domestic and foreign tourists,” he announced prior to the flag-off of the Malaysia Unity Fun Run at Pulau Li Hua here on Monday night.

Toh, who is also HP deputy managing director, jointly performed the ceremony with Sibu Resident Charles Siaw.

Adding on, Toh said the new marina houses many recreational facilities such as a
river cruise, jet-skis and rowboats.

Themed ‘For Walks of Life – A United Love For Malaysia’, the ‘Malaysia Unity Run’ hosted 500 runners including participants from Australia. It was held in celebration of Malaysia Day, and also as part of the activities in this year’s Sibu International BASE Jump event.

Meanwhile in his remarks, Siaw hailed Sibu as a place that ‘signifies the spirit of unity amidst diversity’, in that it is home to many communities with different cultural and religious backgrounds.

At the same time, he also reminded everyone to stay healthy, not only mentally but physically as well.

“I hope that this event would inspire people to promote the importance of creating and upholding a culture of unity in the community,” he added.
