SIBU: Twenty-three schools in Mukah district are closed today due to the worsening haze.

According to Mukah district education officer Salemah Chali, schools cannot be closed all at once, but the closure will be done in stages.

“Schools cannot be closed all at once as we need to wait for parents or guardians to fetch their children home,” she said.

Boarders are permitted to go home if their parents or guardians have applied to do so.

PPD Mukah advised all schools to be closed today due to the rising API readings.

Parents have been urged to fetch their children and keep them indoors.

Children are also urged to wear the proper N95 masks for protection, especially when going outdoors and to stay hydrated.

The API reading in Mukah has climbed to 209 as at 1pm today.
