Haze: 890 schools ordered closed due to worsening haze in Sarawak

A total of 809 schools in 17 districts were ordered to close today due to the worsening haze in Sarawak.

KUCHING: A total of 890 schools in 17 districts were ordered to close today due to the worsening haze in Sarawak.

The Education Ministry in a press statement today, said the school closures had affected a total of 254,499 students.

Out of the total 890 schools closed, 765 were primary schools, while the other 125 were secondary schools.

Sibu had the highest number of schools closed at 108 and followed by Padawan (103) and Kuching (88).

Saratok had 69 schools closed while Samarahan (67), Serian (65), Betong (59), Bau (44), Simunjan (43), Sri Aman (39) and Kanowit (38), Meradong (38), Lubok Antu (27), Sarikei (26), Julau (25), Lundu (25) and Daro (25).

Schools were advised to adhere closely the Schools Standard Operating Procedure during haze situation issued by the Ministry of Education on Sept 18, where it was also stated that the health of teachers and students is a priority.
