MIRI: There is no report of Sarawakians working at Saudi Aramco processing facility and oilfield in eastern Saudi Arabia that was attacked by drone last Saturday.

Assistant Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture Datuk Sebastian Ting said he had not received any reports of Sarawakians, especially those from Miri working in the facility and oilfield.

He, however, said he would check with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to find out if there are Sarawakians working there.

He said it was a tragic incident, and hoped no one is injured in the incident .

A former worker of an international oil and gas company, Suraini Zaini when contacted yesterday said most of his former employees working with an international oil company here (Miri) were either working in Saudi, Russia and US where their expertise are needed in the giant oil and gas companies.

“I hope no Malaysian are working at the Saudi oil processing facility,” he added.

It was reported last Saturday that the drone attacks targeted a major Saudi Aramco processing facility and oilfield in eastern Saudi Arabia. It resulted in a huge fire at the site before dawn.

No one immediately claimed responsibility for the attack, which came after earlier drone attacks by Yemen’s Houthi rebels.
It wasn’t clear if there were any injuries in the attack  on the processing plant in Buqyaq and at the Khurais oil field.
