KUCHING: Six suspects, including an 18-year-old girl, found in possession of 61 grammes of syabu by the Narcotics Crime Investigation Department could face the death penalty if found guilty.

They raided a house at Mile 10, Kuching-Serian road here yesterday, following information and intelligence received and gathered by Padawan District police headquarters’ NCID, said its head Supt Hasnir Abdul Hamid.

The other five suspects comprised three men and two women aged between 20 and 44 years old.

“All the suspects were arrested from a room in the house on suspicion of being involved in drug-related activities.

“A search of the room found a small bag containing a large translucent plastic packet containing crystal-like substance suspected to be syabu, and one big plastic packet with 28 smaller blue plastic packets also containing syabu weighing a total of 61 grammes,” Hasnir said in a statement.

The suspects are meanwhile detained for further investigation under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, which carries the death penalty on conviction.

“They also tested positive for amphetamine and methamphetamine, and are being investigated under Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952,” he added.
