KUALA LUMPUR: In view of the current hazy situation with the current Air Pollutant Index reading of above 200 (very unhealthy), the Ministry of Youth and Sports (KBS) will implement a ‘Work from Home Policy’.

Its minister, Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman in a statement today said the ministry would distribute circulars to ensure the policy could be implemented as many KBS staff worked outside and exposed to haze hazards.

“KBS is aware of the dangers and threats of haze to all KBS employees. This policy is implemented to safeguard the health of KBS employees and is in line with the closure of schools in the affected areas, ” he said.

He said KBS believed the move was a necessity and that it could be applied in other ministries and government agencies.

Based on the API readings on the Malaysian Air Pollution Index Management System (APIMS) portal until 6pm, nine areas recorded extremely poor air quality namely Kulim Hi-Tech, Kedah (206); Minden (230) and Balik Pulau, Penang (257); Petaling Jaya (207), Johan Setia Klang (258), Shah Alam, Selangor (216); Nilai, Negeri Sembilan (210); Sri Aman (228) and Kuching, Sarawak (215).

An API reading of zero to 50 indicates good air quality; 51 to 100 (moderate); 101 to 200 (unhealthy), 201 to 300 (very unhealthy) and 301 and above (hazardous). – Bernama
