MIRI: Yamaha Y15ZR Miri Motorcycle Recreational Club will work closely with the police to ensure that members adhere strictly with traffic law and regulation when modifying their machines.

“We will give total cooperation to the police and will ensure that members will not do any modification that is against the law,” club chairman Zainal Suhaili said in response Wednesday to the latest trend of modifying motorcycles illegally in Peninsular Malaysia, particularly Yamaha Y15ZR better known as ‘Ysuku’.

He said the club which was registered under Sarawak Sport Council on Jan 5, 2017, has 60 members.

“Only 15 per cent of Ysuku owners in the city are registered with us. We always advise and remind our members not to do any motorcycle modification,” he said.

He hoped the federal Ministry of Sport and Youth would consider building a motorcycle race circuit in the city as there is a demand here and to prevent youths from engaging in illegal motorcycle racing.

“If Miri has a race circuit, we can organise racing tournaments including drag racing in the city. Perhaps, this facility would be another approach to solve the ‘Mat Rempit’ problem,” added Zainal.
