KUCHING: Sarawak Pakatan Harapan (PH) chairman Chong Chieng Jen has been reminded of his past alliance with Parti Islam Se-Malaysia (PAS) under the previous coalition Pakatan Rakyat (PR).

According to Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) vice-president Datuk Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah, Chong seems to have gotten a short memory since being appointed Deputy Minister of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs.

Abdul Karim said this was reflected by Chong condemning PAS president Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang’s courtesy call on Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg as “an unholy alliance” between PAS and PBB.

The Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture pointed out that Chong must have forgotten that at one time, he was the one who welcomed PAS into Sarawak as they were “bedpartners” in PR.

“Now they have gone separate ways and even a courtesy call by the PAS president on the Chief Minister is seen by him as a discussion to forge an alliance.

“How short Chong’s memory has become since he sat on the comfortable chair of the Deputy Minister in Kuala Lumpur,” said Abdul Karim.

Abdul Karim said Abdul Hadi and his entourage had been in Sarawak to celebrate Malaysia Day and had been courteous enough to pay a courtesy call Abang Johari.

According to him, within a year of being in the federal government, Chong has shown his true self.

“He is neither a fighter for the state, nor a fighter for the people of Sarawak,” Abdul Karim claimed.
