KUCHING: Assistant Minister in the Chief Minister’s Department (Law, State-Federal Relations and Project Monitoring) Sharifah Hasidah Sayeed Aman Ghazali is unhappy with a news portal’s report, which she said took her comments on a nationwide forestry policy proposal out of context.

The Samariang assemblywoman told The Borneo Post yesterday that she had not rejected the proposal by Water, Land and Natural Resources Minister Dr Xavier Jayakumar but merely pointed out that Sarawak already has its own forestry policy and ordinance.

She said as such Sarawak would use its own law and ordinance on the matter.

The news portal had reported that Sarawak turned down the proposed integrated Malaysian Forestry Policy, quoting Sharifah Hasidah as saying Sarawak cannot accept it.

At present there are three separate forestry policies for Peninsular Malaysia, Sabah, and Sarawak.

Dr Xavier had met with Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg in Kuching this week to discuss the possibility of compiling these three policies into one Malaysian Forestry Policy.
