KUCHING: Congress of Unions of Employees in the Public and Civil Service (Cuepacs) is against the closure of 33 training institutes under the Ministry of Health.

Its president Datuk Azih Muda said the training institutes were important centres for the Health Department and agencies under the local government to send their staff for training.

He said seven to nine of such institutes had been closed, and their functions changed.

“These training institutes are good centres for the health officers and staff and also other officers under the local government for training to become competent officers.  We in Cuepacs are therefore against the closure of these institutes,” he told a press conference here yesterday.

Earlier, he officiated at the opening of Cuepacs Sarawak third triennial delegates conference at its headquarters in Bampfylde Road here.

On another matter, Azih said Cuepacs did not see any over supply in the civil service at the moment.

“In fact, we are made to understand that there is a manpower shortage in the various departments and agencies,” he said.
