KENINGAU: Native community leaders in Sabah have been advised not to raise sensitive racial and religious issues which might cause tension and undermine harmony among the people.

Sabah Infrastructure Development Minister Datuk Peter Anthony, who is also Malaysia Kadazan Dusun Murut Association president, said district chiefs, native chiefs, native chief assignees and village chiefs were bound by the ground rules set by the Sabah Native Affairs Department, under the state Law and Native Affairs Ministry.

“Native community leaders are appointees of the state government, therefore, it is incumbent on them to act as such, rather than at the behest of political party leaders who may have personal agenda,” he told reporters yesterday after meeting residents in Tulid at St Blasius Church hall, Kampung Magatang here. – Bernama
