KUCHING: The Professional Golf of Malaysia (PGM) and the Asian Development Tour (ADT) are planning to organise the Malaysian Masters Championship next year.

PGM chairman Tun Ahmad Sarji Abdul Hamid said the Malaysian Masters will be quite similar to the Malaysian Open Golf Championship.

“The Malaysian Masters is supposed to be held this year but due to certain circumstances,
we had to plan it for next year,” he told the press conference
for the PGM MNRB ADT Sarawak Championship at Kelab Golf Sarawak, Petra Jaya yesterday.

“We have to get the support from the Sarawak Government and I have approached the chief minister (Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg) who has in principle agreed to the proposal for it to be held in Sarawak.

“The Top 25 golfers in the PGM Order of Merit will play in the Malaysian Masters while the rest of the participants will have to fulfill the requirements set by ADT,” said Sarji.

He will also be talking to sponsors who are linked to the state tourism industry to make the event part of the tourism programme in Sarawak.

“Once we are certain that it benefits Sarawak tourism, we will announce the venue, date and prize money,” he added.
