Fire fighting operation in Kampung STC Sri Aman expected to be completed tonight – Bomba director

KUCHING: The fire fighting operation in Kampung STC Sri Aman is expected to be completed tonight, said state Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) director Khiruddin Drahman.

In saying this, he revealed that there was only 0.5 acres left from the overall 133 acres of land still affected by the fire.

“Sector A and B is found to have been fully extinguished. For Sector C, there is only 0.5 acres left,” Khiruddin said in a statement released today.

He asserted that a surveillance team would be dispatched to prevent anyone from breaching the area.

“Land owners are advised to be more responsible to safeguard their respective lands from any fires,” he added.

In an earlier statement, assistant operations director Tiong Ling Hii said the water-bombing operation which utilised the Bombardier CL-415 aircraft was done in Ketajau-Lingga area.

A total of 108,000 litres of water was used during the water-bombing, with a total of 18 drops were done since the operation began at 8.20am yesterday.

The fire fighting operation had entered its eighth day involving manpower of 40 people.

Two prime movers were used to pump water from Batang Lupar river, two FRT fire engines, and six excavators.

Agencies such as the Malaysian Armed Forces (ATM) and the Civil Defense Force (APM) would continue to provide support in manpower.
