KOTA KINABALU: The Sabah International Convention Centre (SICC) is expected to be completed in December 2019, Chief Minister Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal revealed on Saturday night.

Shafie said the project had suffered delays during the previous government’s rule and had only reached 60% completion when the new Parti Warisan Sabah-led government took over last year.

“Now in December, the Sabah International Convention Centre will be completed,” he told the people during the Foh Sang Mid-Autumn Carnival on Saturday night.

“There will be a lot of benefits. I want it to be linked not only to tourism, but also with basic facility schemes. This is not just talk. We will do it,” said Shafie, who is also Warisan president.

The Chief Minister said as this is part of the state government’s aspirations to develop Sabah to its full potential.

“We must be united and solid to develop Sabah. Sabah is not only for the Bajau people. This Sabah is not only for the KadazanDusun people. Sabah belongs to the Chinese too,” he said.

“This is your state. This is your country. Must make sure all Sabahans must work together irrespective of who we are, and we must cooperate among all the races. The ones who voted for us were not only Malays. The one who voted for us were not only KDMs (Kadazan, Dusun and Muruts). The ones who voted for us were also the Chinese people,” he emphasized.
