Kpg STC fires: All but half acre doused, says state Bomba director

KUCHING: Firefighting efforts at Kampung STC in Sri Aman has succeeded in putting out fires at all but half an acre as of yesterday, said Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) Sarawak director Khirudin Drahman.

“(Fires at) sector A and B are found to have been fully extinguished. For Sector C, there is only 0.5 acres left,” he said in a press statement yesterday evening, adding the last of the flames was expected to be put out later yesterday.

He said in total, some 133 acres at Kampung STC were affected by the fire.

Khirudin also said that Bomba will have a surveillance team in place to prevent unauthorised entry into the affected area, and called on land owners to be more responsible in protecting their land from fire outbreaks.

Meanwhile, Bomba Sarawak assistant operations director Tiong Ling Hii in an earlier statement said water bombing using the Bombardier CL-415 aircraft was carried out in the Ketajau-Lingga area yesterday.

The operation began at 8.20am with 18 drops totalling 108,000 litres of water carried out, he said.
