MIRI: Dayang Enterprise Sdn Bhd is committed to shaping a safety culture through leadership, says deputy chairman Datuk James Ling.

He said Dayang has successfully built up a quality, health, safety, security and environment (QHSSE)-conscious culture in the company – consequently producing encouraging results – through holding annual QHSSE campaigns and with the strong support of clients like Petronas Carigali, Nippon Oil, vendors and staff.

“Dayang, over the years, no matter how we face the various challenges, we always hold this annual QHSSE event without fail, and this is Dayang’s QHSSE culture.

“As of Aug 31, 2019, we have achieved Lost Time Injury (LTI)-free of 18,627,796 man hours. This is a great record which we are very proud of. Congratulations!” said Ling when launching the company’s QHSSE campaign, here yesterday.

He pointed out that a culture of safety starts with leadership because leadership drives culture, and culture drives behaviour.

“The culture aspect involves the whole hierarchy of the organisation and the respective individual life. This cultural influence is beyond the workplace that seeps into the home and social lifestyle.”

Ling also stressed that safety culture is not just about procedures, documentation, policies and regulations, but rather it is the mental attitude, psychology and behaviour of people which contribute the distinguished safety features that shape the culture.

Earlier in his welcoming speech, organising chairman Daniel Ch’ng said various activities have been planned for the campaign, themed ‘Healthy Life, Safety Act, Quality Works’.

Among them are beach cleaning, blood donation, health talk, futsal competition and Offshore QHSSE Pledge Competition.

Additionally, two other events in the form of a charity golf tournament and charity run, will be held in aid of Palliative Care Association of Miri and Gereja Methodist Tudan Miri Learning Centre.

The run, themed ‘Run for the Needy’, will be held on Oct 27.

Registration for both events close on Oct 4, and can be made online via https://tinyurl.com/dygcharityrun2019 or in person either at Dayang’s headquarters or its two branches in Senadin and Krokop.

Dayang deputy managing director Joe Ling was among the 250 guests present at the event yesterday.
