KOTA KINABALU: Police disposed of close to RM1 million worth of gambling machines and DVDs through ‘e-Waste’ method here yesterday.

Sabah Police Commissioner Datuk Omar Mammah said 1,242 gambling machines worth RM248,000 disposed of yesterday were from 23 cases handled by the Kota Kinabalu police contingent (IPD KK) between 2002 and 2014.

They included 311 monitors, 310 CPUs, 35 gambling machines, 285 keyboards, 276 sets of mouse, one printer, 15 modems and nine speakers.

For DVDs and VCDs without the ‘B’ certificate, a total of 127,671 copies worth RM638,355 were also disposed of through e-Waste, said Omar.

The DVDs and VCDs were seized from raids between 2009 and 2018 involving 27 investigation papers.

“The cases have been settled and we have received court orders to dispose of the evidence,” he said at a press conference at the Kota Kinabalu police store unit in Kepayan.

Also present to witness the disposal of the seized items were Sabah Deputy Police Commissioner Datuk Zaini Jass, Sabah CID chief SAC Jauteh Dikun, Kota Kinabalu police chief ACP Habibi Majinji, Kota Kinabalu deputy police chief Superintendent George Abdul Rakman, officers from the Sabah Environment Department, Syarikat Legenda Bumimas Sdn Bhd and Public Works Department.

Omar said the Environmental Quality (Scheduled Wastes) Regulation 2005 under the Environmental Quality Act 1974 identify electronic waste as e-Waste and had been listed as scheduled waste by the Department of Environment as it is flammable, corrosive, reactive and also toxic to the environment.
