KOTA KINABALU: Trip.com, an international online travel brand, sent 15 employees from its Singapore and Malaysia offices to participate in a Corporate Social Responsibility project in Sekolah Kebangsaan Pukak, Kiulu, on September 20.

Two Singaporean influencers, Yina Goh (@yinagoh) and Xinlin Khaw (@xinlinnn) also joined the event.

Trip.com contributed school supplies such as projectors, whiteboards, stationeries and sports equipment to the school, which accommodates 128 students from Primary 1 to Secondary 5. The majority of these students come from low-income rural families.

Trip.com volunteers demonstrated their support by painting the dining hall to promote an atmosphere more conducive to fun and creativity.

Students were also taught by Trip.com volunteers about the importance of recycling and learned ways to reduce our environmental footprint through a novel recycling workshop, in which students crafted creative art projects from discarded materials.

Trip.com also partnered with Community Recycle for Charity (CRC), a non-profit, registered and government approved organization founded in 2008, with the aim of serving those in need by means of environmentally friendly practices.

Goromon Rongot, headmaster of SK Pukak, said, “We are extremely humbled that Trip.com volunteers have come from afar, even Singapore, to our small village to help improve our school facilities. On behalf of the school, we would like to express our appreciation and gratitude to Trip.com for the support given to our students.”

Edmund Weng, General Manager of Trip.com Singapore and Malaysia, said, “At Trip.com, it is our duty to help communities grow with us by contributing to their wellbeing and peaceful development. Starting with Sabah, we are looking for more ways to give back as we continue our growth in the region. It is our great honor to be here as we dedicate ourselves to helping to make Sekolah Kebangsaan Pukuk Kiulu an even better learning environment for our students.”

Stephane Thong, Regional Director of Trip.com Malaysia added, “Through our humble efforts today, we hope that Trip.com has helped make a difference to the lives of the students at SK Pukak, so that they can continue learning without having to worry about the availability of resources in the school.”

Another volunteer, Karyn Wong, Regional HR Manager of Trip.com who helped to paint the dining hall said, “By helping to beautify the school’s dining hall, we hope that students feel a sense of pride when they are using the school facilities. We have used different colors and painted warm images to make the area more vibrant.”

Yina said she was very glad to have been part of this project.

“This trip was a heartwarming experience for me as I witnessed how a travel corporation like Trip.com went out of its way to give back to society and made a difference in the lives of the young children in rural Kota Kinabalu,” she said.

In addition to helping people travel to all corners of the globe, Trip.com cares about the communities it operates in, and is committed to engaging with local markets by giving back through time, knowledge and sponsorships.
