KUCHING: The upgrading works on Jalan Tun Razak-Jalan Foochow should reach completion this mid-November, set to bring relief to motorists who at the moment, have to go through massive jams during peak hours there.

This was disclosed by Public Works Department (JKR) Sarawak when its officers briefed Pending assemblywoman Violet Yong about the progress on the four federal road upgrading projects in Kuching recently.

The focus of the briefing was on the progress of the ongoing road upgrading works on the traffic light intersection of Jalan Tun Razak-Jalan Foochow area in the Pending constituency.

Yong had requested JKR Sarawak, the project’s supervising agency, to closely monitor the works and ensure that the contractor would expedite them so that the project could reach completion within the shortest time possible.

“Since the commencement of the road repair works, I have received countless complaints from the public using Jalan Tun Razak-Jalan Foochow (junction) that the slowness of the repair works has aggravated the heavy traffic jam further, especially during the peak working hours,” she said in a statement yesterday.

The Pakatan Harapan (PH)-led federal government, through the Works Ministry, had allocated RM5 million this year for the upgrading of four federal roads in Kuching.

These projects and their respective costs approved are Jalan Tun Razak (RM2 million), Jalan Datuk Bandar Mustapha (RM1 million), section of Jalan Tun Razak in front of Rajah Court Hotel (RM1 million) and Jalan Tun Jugah (RM1 million).
