Man killed, four others injured in accident at Mile 15 Jalan Kuching-Serian

KUCHING: A 57-year-old man perished when he was thrown out of the vehicle that he was in at Mile 15 Jalan Kuching-Serian around 2.20am early this morning.

State Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department chief Supt Alexson Naga Chabu said the deceased has been identified as Lai Boon King from Mile 56 Jalan Serian-Sri Aman.

“Due to the accident, the deceased suffered from serious head and bodily injuries. He was pronounced dead by a medical personnel at the scene,” said Alexson in a press statement today.

Also in the vehicle were four others, the driver a 18-year-old male who suffered from injuries to his right hand, a 22 year-old male (facial injuries), a 17-year-old male (injuries to his left leg) and a 22-year-old female (severed right wrist).

“The vehicle was heading to Kuching from Serian when the driver ran over a dog and lost control of the vehicle,” said Alexson, adding that all of the victims were staff of an entertainment outlet in Serian and were heading to Kuching for a late dinner.

He said the vehicle flew over the road divider which caused the deceased to be thrown out of the vehicle.

Alexson said the case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.

Meanwhile the Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) said all of the victims were pulled out of the vehicle by the members of the public prior to their arrival at the scene.

All were sent to the Sarawak General Hospital by the Bomba’s EMRS, Mal­aysian Civil Defence Force and the hospital’s ambulances.
