KOTA KINABALU: The Chief Minister Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal has urged agencies still receiving grants from the state government to implement programmes to reduce dependency  and become financially independent.

He said this aim must be implemented by the agencies to boost their performances from time to time.

‘’Statutory bodies which have commercial potentials must to seek new approaches to set value and price to their services and develop core businesses which can generate income to finance socio-economic activities.

‘’Government agencies must also explore strategic co-operation potentials between them and avoid competition with one another or venture into overlapping sectors,’’ he said.

He said this in his speech which was read by Sabah Assistant Finance Minister Kenny Chua at the  launch of a course for the Board of Directors of State Statutory Bodies and Government Agencies in Sabah here today.

Mohd Shafie, who is also Finance Minister, said the time had come for all state government agencies to look at the potentials outside especially in neighbouring states and country.

‘’For example, government agencies must think of the potentials that can be reaped following the proposal to relocate the capital of Indonesia from Jakarta to Kalimantan,’’ he said.

Meanwhile, Mohd Shafie also stressed on the importance of looking after integrity among the members of the boards of directors of the state government organisations. – Bernama
