KUCHING: The chairman of Village Community Management Council (MPKK) will receive RM500 monthly allowance, while the secretary will receive RM300.

This was clarified by Pakatan Harapan (PH) Sarawak secretariat following reports circulated on social media that the chairman and secretary of MPPK will receive RM3,500 and RM2,300 monthly allowance respectively.

“We note with dismay various fake news being circulated on social media lately by irresponsible and mischevious unknown parties on the mechanism and payment of MPKK.

“We would like to clarify that the monthly allowance of MPKK chairman is RM500 and not RM3,500 as being circulated in social media, while the MPKK secretary to receive RM300 a month and not RM2,300, as circulated in the social media, ” they stressed in a press statement.

The statement was jointly issued by state secretary of Amanah Sarawak Abang Abdul Halil Abang Naili, DAP state secretary Alan Ling, Keadilan Sarawak state secretary Vernon Kedit and Bersatu Sarawak state chairman Alkaf Jaziri.

They pointed out the allowance are paid by the federal government through Ministry of Rural Development and bank-in directly to the chairman and secretary, and not through District Office or Resident Office.

For correct information about MPKK, the public can contact the PH Sarawak secretariat through any of PH component parties members at grassroots level.

They went on to say that the model of MPKK in Sarawak differs from the model described in ‘Tatacara MPKK’ page on the Ministry of Rural Development.

“The Tatacara MPKK’ page on the Ministry of Rural Development applies to states governed by PH parties representatives, and the form on the website does not apply to Sarawak,” they asserted.

PH Sarawak chairman Chong Chieng Jen said only Sunday that the coalition is currently finalising the list of candidates for MPKK.

Chong said PH Sarawak was responsible for the selection of candidates and would submit the list to Ministry of Rural Development by the end of this month.

He was quoted as saying that all committees would be given RM10,00 annual grant to carry out their respective activities.

It is learnt that there are 5, 900 villages and longhouses throughout the state.
