LAHAD DATU: The Eastern Sabah Security Command (ESSCom) has denied that the video showing slaughtering which went on social media was one of the kidnapped victims.

Its Commander, DCP Datuk Hazani Ghazali said ESSCom had checked the validity of the video with its counterpart and confirmed that the video was an old one.

“We hope members of public will not simply be deceived or influenced by the video as we have been confirmed that the video was an old video,” he said.

Hazani said this when met at ESSCom monthly assembly at Lahad Datu Marine Police Force Base, yesterday.

According to Hazani, following a meeting with the State Security Working Committee (JKKN), they would review the effectiveness of the dusk-to-dawn curfew.

Hazani said several ideas had been voiced, however, he could not reveal the content.

He said they might be taking a drastic action or less severe action taking into account that Sabah east coast is tourism centre.

He said they would also be considering the opinion of the world community.

“May be there are several areas that we will enforce a 24-hour curfew and do not let anyone in.

“However, a review of the curfew is being undertaken,” he said.

Commenting further on the use of pump boats, Hazani said basically they would allow the pump boats for Sabahans only.

However, he said that they would limit the number of engines and horsepower of the pump boats.

Previously in his speech, Hazani said that various mechanisms had been established by ESSCom to coordinate security in the Eastern Sabah Security Zone (ESSZone).

He said the machanisms including a review of curfew, a review of the increasing the number of manpower and assets, review of the overlapping posts at the strategic areas.

ESSCom, he said, had also enhanced the cooperation and understanding between security agencies and impact of this mechanism; ESSCom had uccessfully raised awareness on the importance of security.

He added that the efforts also successfully reduced the domination of the illegal immigrants in economic activities in Sabah, reduced cross-border crimes especially smuggling activities as well as increased the people’s confidence.
