SARIKEI: New business opportunities will arise from the infrastructural development being implemented in the surrounding areas here, said Repok assemblyman Datuk Seri Huang Tiong Sii.

He called on the local business community to be prepared for the opportunities likely to arise from the construction of the 17km Sungai Pasi to Tanjung Manis/Sibu Road costing over RM321 million, including a 1.2km bridge across Batang Rajang.

Huang said the road connectivity would make Sarikei the preferred shopping place for people from neighbouring coastal villages such as Belawai, Jerijih, Kuala Rajang, Tanjung Manis, Matu, and Daro.

“The local people in particular ought to be very thankful to our Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg for approving the long-awaited project dubbed as a missing link in the local road network system,” he said during a Mooncake Festival dinner, which he hosted for the business community at Sarikei Central Hall recently.

Huang also advised the business community to maintain good discipline, friendliness, and extend their full cooperation to the various authorities.

He cited working closely with the Sarikei District Council as a means to get more conducive trading spaces.

Among those present were Temenggong Frederick Wong Kung Kuong and Pemanca Chan Phan Chan.
