Six arrested in elephant killing case remanded for four days

The six suspects were produced in court for the remand order today.

TAWAU: The six men arrested in connection with the recent killing of a male elephant were remanded for four days by a Magistrate Court here today.

Magistrate Ferhanshah Farene allowed the remand of the five local men and a foreigner for police investigation under Section 8(a) of the Firearms Act 1960 which provides imprisonment of not more than seven years or a fine not more than RM10,000 or both.

Investigation officer Inspector Azlinda Buang produced all the six suspects before the magistrate to apply for the remand for the opening of the case against the suspects.

On Oct 2, police investigating the case detained the six suspects and seized a shotgun, three homemade shotguns, an air rifle, shotgun shells and air rifle pellets.
