SIBU: Twenty-four homemade shotguns were disposed of at the police headquarters about 9am yesterday.

The disposal exercise was witnessed by district deputy police chief Supt Wong Chee Keong and several senior officers.

District police chief ACP Stanley Jonathan Ringgit said the shotguns were seized during the 1960s and 1970s and were destroyed by order of a magistrate’s court here.

The shotguns were cut into pieces before being buried 10 feet in the ground at the compound of police headquarters here.

It was the third consecutive arms disposal exercise here this year, the earlier ones involving 126 shotguns were held earlier this year.
