Missing hunter found safe and sound

MIRI: A 42-year-old man, said to have lost his way during a hunting trip at the forest area of Sungai Pelutan, Long Miri in Baram on Wednesday, was found safe and sound by timber camp workers Saturday morning.

Ajang Lawai was reported missing while hunting with a friend at about 8.30pm on Wednesday. Both had split up as they entered into the woods, but the friend managed to return safely to the village of Daleh Long Pelutan @ Long Miri at about 8am on Thursday, with Ajang nowhere to be found.

Miri Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) chief Law Poh Kiong said a team of five personnel from Marudi Fire and Rescue Station led by senior fire officer II Abd Rahman was deployed to the scene after receiving a call from Long Lama Police Station at around 10.30am on Saturday to join in a search-and-rescue (SAR) operation involving 12 villagers.

“The team arrived at the village at 6pm and was later informed that the person reported missing had been found, which was confirmed by his brother Luhat Lawai.

“According to information obtained, Ajang had lost his way when he was finding an exit out of the forest area and was found by timber camp workers at 11am today (Saturday) in a safe condition and had been taken back home,” said Law.

The operation which was also joined by the police ended at 7pm on Saturday.

Daleh Long Pelutan headman Tingang Pahang, in a WhatsApp message, expressed his gratitude to the SAR team.

“We, villagers of Daleh Long Pelutan, would like to express our heartfelt gratitude to the Long Lama police and Bomba Marudi. May God bless your efforts,” he said.
