CM: Educational institution meant for Sarawak’s crème de la crème to be sited near UCTS Campus

SIBU: The Sarawak government will build an international school near the University College of Technology Sarawak (UCTS) Campus here.
According to Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg, the school is set to use Cambridge University-based syllabus, but it will offer fees similar to those of public schools.
“This school is for the ‘crème de la crème’, not for the moderate achievers. The ‘crème de la crème’ (lot) has high standards in terms of their academic performance. If they’re mixed with moderate achievers, they would be affected.
“This is why we want to set up this international school,” he said during a townhall session at Sibu Islamic Complex here yesterday.
Adding on, Abang Johari expressed his hope for ‘the right candidates’ to be picked for the school.
On a separate subject, the chief minister said a 200-acre site had been identified to be turned into a ‘green park’ here, to accommodate eco-friendly recreational and outdoor activities.
“I want this place to be gazetted and declared as a green park.
“The place has trees and wildlife. There is a river too for canoeing,” he said, adding that he would further discuss this plan with Assistant Minister of Local Government and Housing Dr Annuar Rapa’ee, who is also Assistant Minister of Education, Science and Technological Research.
Additionally, Abang Johari noted that several private companies were also eyeing the site.
“Once gazetted, nobody can touch this place,” stressed the chief minister.
Petra Jaya MP Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusuf and Sibu Resident Charles Siaw were also present.
