LAHAD DATU: The body of a man was found in a ditch at Kampung Cocos, Batu 6 here yesterday.

Members of the public discovered the body about 6.30 am and informed the police.

District Police Chief ACP Nasri Mansor said upon being alerted, a team of police from the Crime Investigation Division and Lahad Datu Police Headquarters rushed to the scene.

Nasri said initial investigation found that the deceased in his 30s, was believed to have been dead for more than 12 hours.

He said police found two wounds on his head but no other injury on his body.

“The team also found his wallet and mobile phone which was broken. No identification documents were found inside the wallet, only a photo of a woman.

“Inspection at the scene also found a broken light bulb from a vehicle near the body,” he said, adding that the victim also lost both of his shoes.

According to Nasri, the body was later taken to Lahad Datu Hospital for post-mortem.

He said police were investigating the case from all aspects, including the possibility of an accident.

Nasri also urged those with any information pertaining to the incident to come forward to the police station or contact Inspector Mohamad Soffi at 089-881 255.

He also urged the woman in the photo to come forward to assist in police investigation.
