MIRI: The Bario Water Supply Project at Pa Umor is on track to be completed within the contractual period despite periods of bad weather.

State Legislative Assembly Deputy Speaker Datuk Gerawat Gala, who is Mulu assemblyman, said the project contractor took necessary measures to ensure the project, which started on March 6 last year, was not badly delayed due to poor road conditions caused by the weather.

“In general, I’m satisfied with the latest progress of the project, which is expected to be completed by March 2020.

“I really hope that this project can be completed in the given time as the clean water supply project is highly demanded by the people in Bario,” he said following a recent site visit.

Once completed, the project would benefit more than 1,000 villages in the highlands such as Arur Dalan, Bario Asal, Arur Layun, Bued Main Beruh, Ulang Palang B, Pa Ramapuh A, Pa Ramapuh B, Padang Pasir, Kampung Baru, Pa Umor, Pa Ukat, Pa Lungan, and Pa Derung.

Gerawat also inspected the Long Seridan Water Treatment project in Ulu Baram, which has been completed and is operational.

He pointed out that residents have complained of water supply shortages from time to time, and called on the Rural Water Supply Department (JBALB) to assess the situation and advise on measures to improve the reliability of water supply.
